Life-writing students and biographers may be interested in the diary and papers of Jessie Kenney (1887-1985). She and Emmeline Pankhurst visited Russia for 3 months in 1917 where they met with leading figures on behalf of the British government and promoted the mobilisation of Russian women in the war effort. The Price of Liberty is a version of this journal prepared for publication in 1966. Kenney’s unpublished autobiography The Flame and the Flood was also prepared around this time. The Archives holds related press-cuttings, correspondence and visitor’s cards, papers of leading suffragettes and papers of the Women’s Social and Political Union, founded in 1903.
