Once you close your browser session, the search history will be cleared. To save your search, sign in.

Then click on the saved search again and it will give you the option to save your search to your account.

Books+ – new features for November 2021

Books+ has two new features

1. Session timeout when signed in

If you have signed-in to Books+ (to save items, save searches or make interlending requests) and then do not perform any activity for 25 minutes, you will now receive an alert to let you know that your session will time out.

A Session Timeout box displays the message “Due to inactivity, you will be signed out in:
5:00″.
Users may choose to:

• Continue Working: The Session Timeout box disappears; the user remains signed in and their session timeout countdown restarts.
• Sign Out: The user is signed out and redirected to the landing page
• Close the alert box: The Session Timeout box disappears; the user remains signed in and their session timeout countdown restarts.

From within the search results, there is now the option to let us know if a link is not working properly. We can then investigate and get it sorted for you.

If you have any questions, please contact the Library Helpdesk

Changes to NCBI and PubMed accounts

From June 2021, there will be changes to how you log into your NCBI accounts.

What’s happening?

NCBI is moving from using local account passwords (the password you created at NCBI) for logging into NCBI to using only 3rd-party logins.

This change will NOT affect the data in your account, such as your MyBibliography, SciENcv, or submission data. You will also keep your NCBI Username, you just won’t be able to log in with it anymore.

Why is this happening?

Transitioning to 3rd parties who have industry-standard security practices ensures that you have the highest level of security.

How to add a 3rd-party login option

1.      Log into your NCBI account as usual.

2.      Click on your username in the upper right corner to access the NCBI Account Settings page.

3.      In the “Linked accounts” (old heading) section, select “Change”.

4.      In the search box, search for your desired 3rd-party option.

5.      Select the link for your desired option.

6.      Authenticate with the 3rd party.

Please note:

If you try to add a 3rd-party account that is already associated with a different NCBI account, you will be asked if you want to merge the accounts. We recommend you contact the NCBI Help Desk to help with this process rather than merging yourself.

If you encounter problems, we recommend that you clear your browser cache or using an incognito/private window. If you continue to have trouble, please contact the NCBI Help Desk.

Books+ improvements 12th July 2021

On Monday 12th July, we will be introducing improvements to our Library search tool Books+

What changes will I see?

  • Improved layout of your search results
  • Clearer indications of alternative formats and editions
  • Indicators of search relevance in search results and search term highlighting
  • Item detail records with simplified access, location and fulfilment options

Do I need to do anything?

No, there is nothing you need to do and all your saved items and searches will still be there once you are logged in.

We are introducing the improvements on the morning of Monday 12th July, so you may need to start a new browser session after that to see the changes.

Please contact the e-Services Team at eservices@uea.ac.uk if you have any queries.

My EBSCO Personal User Accounts Maintenance

EBSCO will be carrying out scheduled maintenance on My EBSCO personal accounts Tuesday 25th May 2pm – Friday 28th May 10pm.

After the upgrade, some users may experience the following problems:

  • EBSCO Mobile App users will need to ensure they are running the latest version of the app or they will not be able to create a My EBSCO account from within the app. If users do not upgrade the app from the iTunes or Google Play app stores, they will need to create their My EBSCO account on the web version of EBSCOhost/Library Search – Everything for use within the app.

  • If you have unsuccessfully tried to log in to your My EBSCO Personal User Account 10 times in a row, your My EBSCO account will be locked for security purposes. If you are locked-out of your My EBSCO account, please email the Electronic Services Team at eservices@uea.ac.uk so we can request it is unlocked again.

Please contact the Electronic Services Team eservices@uea.ac.uk if you have any queries.

Sharing Ovid Searches

The Ovid platform has introduced new search sharing features. These features help users seamlessly share search strategies with colleagues, allowing the recipient to rerun the search with one click.

Users will see three new buttons in the Search History Panel: Email All Search History, Copy Search History Link, and Copy Search History Details.

  • Email All Search History: allows users to send their current search history to another user via email. The email includes the search strategy with line numbers and number of results, database segment(s), the date the search was executed, a link to run the search, and a message from the sender.
  • Copy Search History Link: copies a search history link to the user’s clipboard. The recipient must have access to the database the search was created in to rerun the search.
  • Copy Search History Details: copies the search strategy, line numbers, number of results per line, and database segment(s) to the user’s clipboard.

Some known issues

One issue that has come to our attention is that users are unable to overwrite existing saved searches. Some users are also seeing their list of saved searches in a different order than the traditional interface. Ovid are aware of these items and are actively working on updating the new interface to accommodate them. We expect that this will be available to users on April 15th.

Contact the Library Electronic Services Team eservices@uea.ac.uk if you have any queries.

Ovid Personal Accounts – End User License Agreement

Coming March 2021- exact date to be confirmed

If you make use of the Personal Account features in Ovid (to save searches, set alerts and manage your research), during March 2021 you will be asked to accept Ovid’s “End User Licence Agreement”

What if I don’t accept it?

If you do not accept the terms of the agreement, you will not be able to make use of the personalised features e.g. save searches, set alerts and manage your research. However, you will still be able to access UEA’s subscribed content on Ovid.

What will I see?

You will see a pop-up message asking you to accept the terms of the agreement.

What is a Personal Account?

To access Ovid, you login with your UEA IT username and password, so that the service provider knows you are an UEA user.

However, you can also create a Personal Account to make use of some personalised features such as save searches, create alerts and manage research.

What if I decline?

If you choose not to accept the Analytics cookies, you will no longer be able to access Bibliu eBooks.

When you next access a Bibliu eBook, you will see this consent form

  • Slide the “Analytics cookies” button across to activate
  • Then Click on the “Confirm Consent” button
