A new biological and medical science journal has been launched: Peer J, which uses a new model of open-access publishing. Instead of asking authors to pay a fee to submit their article and make it then freely available to all readers, authors will be asked to pay a one-off lifetime membership of the journal to publish free, peer reviewed articles in PeerJ. See this article in Nature for more information.
